Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is one of the most well-known types of therapeutic massage that focuses on muscle relaxation, targeting superficial muscles and increasing blood circulation. Using long, gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart, this technique is very effective in inducing total body relaxation. Beyond relaxation, Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving flexibility and easing tension.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage involves applying firm pressure and slow, deep strokes to reach the inner layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). While this type of massage is not focused specifically on relaxation, it does offer both physical and psychological benefits. Studies show that massage modalities like deep tissue lower blood pressure, stress hormone levels, and heart rate. It also boosts mood and relaxation by triggering the release of oxytocin and serotonin. Deep tissue massage techniques are mainly used for musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries, by breaking up the scar tissue that forms following an injury. It may also promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation.

Ashiatsu

(45 mins – $95)
An Asian style of massage that has been practiced for thousands of years, Ashiatsu is a barefoot massage technique using deep strokes from the therapist’s feet. This style of deep tissue massage works further into the fascia, as well as releasing trigger points and stretching connective tissues. Working with gravity instead of against it, Jason provides an effective therapeutic massage without causing pain or discomfort to the client. Long, gravity-assisted strokes broaden and lengthen muscle fibers to restore and improve flexibility. Gentle manipulation of deeper layers of soft tissue increases circulation to flush out inflammation that may be causing pain. Broad compressive strokes enhance the circulation of blood and the effectiveness of the lymphatic system.

Some of the common benefits of Ashiatsu are:

  • Reduction of chronic pain
  • Improved flexibility
  • No residual soreness
  • Stress reduction
  • Long-lasting effects

Some additional massage techniques utilized by our therapists include Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, and Pregnancy Massage.

Reflexology

Reflex areas on the feet, hands, outer ears, and face correspond to various body systems. Gentle pressure on specific areas directs energy to corresponding organs and systems to open energy channels. Keeping the energy flowing restores balance and promotes healing.

Reflexology is offered at $1.25/minute.

Some individuals may feel discomfort when pressure is applied to the various reflex points. However, reflexology should never be painful.

Some of the common benefits you may experience are:

  • Increased relaxation
  • Reduced pain
  • Improved blood flow
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Improved sleep patterns
  • Balanced hormones
  • Removal of toxins

What is the difference between massage therapy and reflexology?

Massage therapy works through the musculoskeletal system whereas reflexology works through the central nervous system. The focus of reflexology is to stimulate the nerve reflexes on the feet, ankles, hands, ears or face.

What can I expect from my reflexology session?

During your session, try to make yourself comfortable and relaxed. Reflexology is most effective when your body is not resisting. As your reflexologist gradually increases thumb and finger pressure to relax specific reflex areas and relieve tension, feel free to communicate if/when you need more or less pressure. Feel free to ask questions related to your session. Your session may be on a massage table or in an anti-gravity chair.

Who can benefit from reflexology?

Reflexology is beneficial for everyone from infants to the elderly. This technique has a long history of promoting relaxation and healing and can be very beneficial in relieving stress or aches and pains that are part of daily life. If you have any health concerns in regards to receiving reflexology treatment, we recommend speaking with your doctor before receiving this treatment.

How much time should I allow for my session?

Sessions are between thirty and sixty minutes.

How frequently should I have a reflexology session?

Clients typically book weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly appointments to maintain the benefits that work for their lifestyle and/or symptoms.
